Health Ambassadors

Our Youth Health Ambassadors programme has been running since 2018. The programme has engaged 217 marginalised, young men and women (aged 18–25 years) to date who wish to become health leaders in their communities and help tackle serious health issues. Most of our Youth Health Ambassadors are aware of early marriage, unplanned pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, and substance abuse.

The programme seeks to build awareness about sexual and reproductive health and rights, improve hygiene practices, provide first aid for the wider community, and more.

Our cohort of Youth Health Ambassadors are now accredited Community Health Workers (CHWs), who conduct monthly household visits and, in partnership with Medic, capture digital health data that can strengthen county data collection.

Safari Doctors is a proud member of the Community Health Impact Coalition and its Youth Health Ambassadors actively advocate for the rights and recognition of CHWs.

I am excited that my communities are getting knowledge that will help them for a lifetime on maternal and child and reproductive health. 2021 means a healthier community, cleaner environment and an involved community."

It was my responsibility to train my Health Scouts in order to spread this knowledge at large within the community.”

“The best thing for me has been everything I have learnt on the importance of health coverage for my community and how to involve them in improving it. These training sessions have really empowered me. I look forward to volunteering more on the projects and activities that will change my community for the better. The shared knowledge when I am with the rest of my teammates is incredible and I always look forward to the next meeting.”
